去る３月１日、第１７期生の 卒業式が行われた。温かな春の 日差しに包まれ、卒業生３５８ 名は、それぞれの思いを胸に抱 きつつ新たな一歩を踏み出した。 これから２１世紀を生きる 彼らが、本校で得たすべてを大 いに生かして活躍してくれるこ とを願う。そして、いつまでも 命の尊さを忘れず、夢と希望を 持ってそれぞれの道を進んで欲 しい。先月、闘病の末に亡くな った故櫻井君の冥福を祈り、 黙祷を捧げ、式は幕を下ろした。 以下、日本語・英語による生 徒代表の答辞を紹介する。

今日私達は多くの先生方、在校生 の皆さん、家族に見守られ、卒 業します。こうして卒業の日を 迎えることができ、大変幸せで す。 この学校での３年間を振り返 ると、１日１日を生き生きと過 ごしてきた自分が思い出されま す。授業では、単なる科目学習 を越えた先生方の興味深いお話 に好奇心を掻き立てられ、部活 動では仲間と、時に激しく衝突 しながらも、目標達成を共に夢 見て練習に励みました。研修旅 行では見知らぬ土地での新しい 発見に喜び、そして驚き、友人 と明かす夜に興奮しました。こ うして楽しいことだけが思い出 されるのは、私達が辛いことを 自分自身で乗り越えてきたから だと思います。練習の成果が得 られず、諦めかけた時、それで も最後まで全力を尽くしました。 勉強が思うようにいかなくなっ た時、自分の夢を思い出して必 死の努力を続けました。自分で 見切りをつけることなく、試行 錯誤しながら何とかゴールを目 指してきました。 ２１世紀最初の年を高校３ 年生として過ごした私達は、世 界の様々な出来事を目にし、世 界について、日本について、そ して自分について考えさせられ る機会が多々ありました。２０ ０１年は変革の小波が立った年 であった気がします。私達が社 会を担う時代には、それが大波 に変わっているはずです。その 時世界が私達に求めるものは次 のようなものだと思います。将 来の展望を語るだけではなく、 それに向けて自分の力を使える 積極性、新しい試みを実行でき る勇気、何事にも対応できる柔 軟性です。自調自考の教えの下、 この学校で学んだ私達には、そ の素質があると確信しています。 自信と更なる向上心を持って、 それぞれの道でベストを尽くし ていこうと思います。 最後になりましたが、私達に 陰ながら御力添えして下さった 先生方、信じて応援してくれた 家族、明るい声で元気づけてく れた後輩の皆さんに心から感謝 いたします。そして、在校生の 皆さんの今後の御活躍と母校の 更なる発展を祈っております。

Today is the day. The day that some of us have long waited for, and some of us have dreaded: high school graduation. Time flies, and our vivid memories of our first day here seem just like yesterday, but in this seemingly short period of three years, we have experienced so much that we will never forget: the School Festivals where we worked intensely to open the class attraction on time, the club activities where we challenged our limits, and everyday classes where we expanded our knowledge with the assistance of many dedicated teachers. Of all the things we did, I'm sure that the time we spent with our friends is the most memorable: the time spent together during all those club practices, the time we stayed after school in class chatting endlessly on unimportant things, or the time we went down to the cafeteria for a refreshing ice cream after studying together for exams. These priceless memories will always be there to look back on. Our class had a friend who could not make it here today, but I'm sure we will always remember him as one of us. The closest relations we had with adults were with teachers. We cannot underestimate the importance of their roles in shaping our identities. Some teachers we respected, others were like friends, but all have influenced us to an extent that we cannot ignore. They have guided us into finding our own pathways to the future. If there were anything that I would praise about this school, it would be the high quality of teachers. Now to the remaining students of the lower grades, I hope that you will make a memorable experience out of your high school life. You students are one of the main factors of this school. Stand up for your causes, and if you have opinions, make it known. High school life comes only once in your lifetime. Live it so you won't regret it. After we graduate, we will be stepping into the real world where we must be more conscious of our many opportunities and responsibilities. The future we make will be about the destruction of outdated systems and the construction of new ones. We must have confidence in ourselves to recreate Japan by daringly overcoming the limits set by the old ways of thinking. With the creativity we acquired here under our school rule of "liberty," I am sure that many of us will be the leaders of this new era, and I am already looking forward to class reunions. Finally, I would like to thank all the faculty members and the school staff for everything: the parents, for all their support and worries; the remaining students; and my fellow class of 2002.
