Ａ ＭＵＬＴＩＬＩＮＧＵＡＬ ＷＯＲＬＤ
There are hundreds of languages in the world: big, powerful languages and small languages. Some languages are living, some languages are dying. What is the difference between a language and a dialect. What languages do you know? Do you speak a dialect? Irish is a Celtic language and it is the national language of Ireland. The number of Irish speakers has declined but now Irish ‘soft power’ is helping its survival.
進路部のGLFCセミナーの一環として、ICU(国際基督教大学) のJohn C Maher教授による英語のモデル授業を実施しました。
当日は、中学3年生から高校2年生までの希望者20数名が参加、表題の「A Multilingual World」について、世界に数多くある言語の特性や、英語や日本語などを題材とした言語学の基礎理論などを丁寧に分かりやすく講義いただきました。途中、何度か小グループごとに先生から命題が与えられ、それぞれの意見を発表し合うなど、受講者の参加意識を高める工夫や、終始、笑顔でアグレッシブな授業の姿勢が印象的で、受講者を引きつけていました。全て英語での講義ではありましたが、参加者全員が最後まで集中し聞き入っていました。講義の終了後には先生から「とても優秀で質問も鋭く、素晴らしい生徒ばかりで驚きました」との感想を頂きました。
