3月に海外行事が再開され、3つの研修と1つの国際大会に参加しました。少し時間が経ってしまいましたが、実施された4つの海外行事を引率の先生の感想も交えてご紹介します。いづれも4年ぶりの国際交流となり現地で熱い歓迎を受けました。
ニュージーランド研修
中学3年生の希望者270名が、ウェリントン地区3月9日(木)～23日(木)、ワイカト地区3月8日(水)～22日(水)の日程で、ニュージーランドホームステイ研修を行いました。各コミュニティの学校に分かれ、約2週間ホストファミリーと生活を共にし、学校生活、校外生活、小学校訪問などを経験しました。現地からの報告はこちらをご覧ください。生徒たちは生きた英語を学び、ニュージーランドの風土と文化に親しみました。
シンガポール研修
渋谷校と共催で幕張校からは7名がシンガポール研修に参加しました。研修ではRaffles Institution校とDunmanas HSでBuddy生徒の授業に参加し、高度でアクティブな授業に刺激を受けるとともに教科書やノートを使用しない授業スタイルに驚いた様子でした。ホームステイファミリーとの交流のなかで多民族国家シンガポールの文化や生活に触れたり、研修全般を通じ国際理解の本質について学ぶことができました。
イギリス研修
こちらも渋谷校との共催で、幕張からは17名の生徒が参加しました。ロンドンから南西に車で2時間ほどの地方都市Bournemouthの語学研修とホスト宅での宿泊が研修の中心となります。この地域は多くの語学学校が点在し例年世界各地から英語を学ぶ学生が集まりますが、コロナの影響が残っているためか海外からの留学生は比較的少なかったそうです。それでも数年ぶりの海外研修となり、参加生徒の意欲はとても高く積極的に海外の文化を吸収しようとしていました。

Energy Transition
A Future Without Fossil Fuels
In March of 2023, three senior-one students joined the Tilt-Shift Challenge organized by the Global Alliance of Leading Edge Schools for Sustainability (GALESS). The students researched Japan’s current energy usage and formulated a way for Japan to transition to sustainable energy. They then joined the in-person conference at Beaver Country Day School in Boston, Massachusetts with students from Poland, Spain, Austria, and Germany. Over their week together, they listened to their peers’ research findings, joined several lectures from leading experts in renewable energy at prestigious universities such as Boston University and MIT, and experienced the history of Boston.
Shibu Maku’s team delivered an excellent presentation, impressing their peers, the teachers, the ambassador of Germany, and an expert judge in the field of energy. The praise they received from the audience was well deserved, and their efforts earned them a lot of respect. In addition to this, the experience was transformative. The experiences on University Campuses in America helped galvanize the students’ motivation and desire to pursue higher education in the United States and to actively pursue their own goals and dreams. Beyond the planned activities, their experience was enriched by impromptu discussions with MIT, Harvard, and Boston College students. Their firsthand experiences with the world of cutting-edge researchers, discussions with other highly intelligent students from outside cultures, and the culture of American Universities created indelible memories that will help them throughout their lives.
