July 22nd, The application process

On Saturday, July 22, the Overseas College Guidance program hosted our annual information session regarding how to prepare for and apply to overseas universities. Each year, we ask recent graduates of ShibuMaku who will be starting university abroad in the fall to give presentations about their experiences of applying to overseas universities. This year, three alumni discussed their application stories with about 70 students and parents. We were also fortunate enough to have an alumnus who recently graduated from Princeton University present on the opportunities available after graduating from an overseas university. After the presentations, we had a question and answer session.

The first presenter will be attending Yale University. He discussed the process for applying to American universities and the preparation that was most useful to him. The second presenter will be attending art at Goldsmiths, University of London in the U.K. This presenter talked about applying to art schools in the U.K. and needing to take a foundation course. The third presenter will be attending the University of Melbourne in Australia. He provided information about applying to universities in Australia and gave advice on how to choose school to which you will apply.

All of our presenters provided very useful information to our students and their parents who are interested in pursuing their post-secondary studies abroad. Our students and their parents were also able to ask their specific questions to the presenters. Thanks to the presenters, our students and their parents have a much better understanding of what it takes to successfully apply to overseas universities.
