The Overseas College Guidance program hosted its annual information session for students and parents in Grades 11 and 12 on June 12. Well over 30 students and parents gathered for presentations from our recent graduates who will begin studying at overseas schools this fall. After the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to interact with the presenters one-on-one.
Mr. Toyoshima, chair emeritus of the International Department, began the session by warmly welcoming the attendees and thanking the presenters. The first presenter is a “regular student” who will begin studying Business & Economics at the University of Chicago this fall. She emphasized the importance of beginning the essay writing process early and understanding the school to which one is applying.
The second presenter, a “returnee,” will also be attending the University of Chicago. She intends to study Computational Mathematics. This presenter discussed how she managed her time throughout the application process, the activities in which she participated, and the importance of finding a school with an environment to promote success.
Presenting last was a “returnee” who will begin studying at Wesleyan University this fall as a Freeman Asian scholar. This presenter provided very forthright information regarding her application process and choosing a school to attend. She was extremely successful in her applications, so she had many very good schools from which to choose – one being an Ivy League school. This presenter chose the school where she feels she will achieve her full potential.
After the presentations, there was a Q & A Session. The attendees asked great questions and received a lot of good information in answer. Following the Q & A Session, the presenters were kind enough to speak with attendees one-on-one. Thanks to the hard work of the presenters, Mr. Toyoshima, and the International Department, this was another successful information session.
